Questions and Answers Regarding Computers And Screens, by Metdog:🇺🇸 What enormous fun! This album is beyond belief. Not only does it go off in all directions, but it also takes on a lo-fi production that hasn’t been sublimated like this in a long time. Metdog has just scored one of the masterpieces of the egg punk/garage genre that so stirred the 2010s. This LP will go down in history. [bandcamp // spotify]🇫🇷 Quel énorme fun ! Cet album est à peine croyable. Il part non seulement dans tous les sens, mais il se permet en plus d’embarquer avec lui une production lo-fi qui n’a pas été sublimée de la sorte depuis longtemps. Loss Of Life, by MGMT🇺🇸 I fear “concept” albums, as they remind me of the dark days of 70s rock music, with Queens and other vomit-inducing elucubrations. Loss Of Life doesn’t reconcile me with the genre (it’s impossible), but it does crown the discography of one of the century’s greatest pop bands to date. What melancholy, what poetry! It’s been a few months (years) since an album has transported me like this one. It affects me so much that I now dare only listen to it when I know I can handle its power over me. [bandcamp // spotify]🇫🇷 Je crains les albums “concept”, ça me rappelle les heures sombres de la musique rock des années 70s avec Queens et autres élucubrations vomitives. Loss Of Life ne me réconcilie pas avec le genre (c’est impossible), mais il vient couronner la discographie d’un des plus grands groupes de pop du siècle à ce jour. Quelle mélancolie, quelle poésie ! Voilà bien quelques mois (années) qu’un album ne m’a pas transporté comme celui-ci. Prehistoric Chrome, by Gee Tee:🇺🇸 Like its most deliciously vintage cover, Gee Tee plays in the “patchwork punk” category, searching for original superimpositions. Prehistoric Chrome is its most accomplished album, an ode to underground culture. It’s rare for a band to gain a cult following – literally – just a few years after its appearance while it’s still active. Gee Tee is one of those bands, one that you only need three seconds to recognize. [bandcamp // spotify]🇫🇷 À l’image de sa pochette délicieusement vintage, Gee Tee joue dans la catégorie “patchwork punk” à la recherche de superpositions inédites. Prehistoric Chrome est son album le plus abouti, une ode à la culture underground. Il est rare qu’un groupe devienne culte – littéralement – quelques années après son apparition, alors qu’il est encore actif. Daniel, by Real Estate:🇺🇸 I wasn’t counting on Real Estate anymore. The band had already released what I consider to be the best ‘breeze pop’ album in history – Atlas (2014). So the chances of them making a comeback were… nil. Consider this: what band has released its best album over 10 years after its first release? I’m sure you count them on the fingers of one hand. Playing Favorites, by Sheer Mag:🇺🇸 Sheer Mag has never disappointed: what a difficult position to have! The emblematic band of the post-2001 scene (hello, Strokes) never ceases to put the “hits machine” back in the spotlight: each new album implies a bevy of summer hits. Playing Favorites is no exception. Sheer Mag’s groovy regularity is matched only by their habit of changing labels. Le groupe emblème de la scène post-2001 (hello, Strokes) n’en finit pas de remettre les “hits machine” au goût du jour : chaque nouvel album implique une ribambelle de summer hit à faire suinter les bikinis qui passeront par là. First LP!, by Autobahns:🇺🇸 I never heard of this band just a few weeks back. The chances of them making it into this intermediate 2024 top were slim to say the least. They were even less likely when I first listened to their newly-released album. But here it is: First LP! has already established itself as the underdog of 2024, the one most deserving of being dived into. That’s right: dive dive dive, folks! [bandcamp // spotify]🇫🇷 Je ne connaissais pas ce groupe il y a quelques semaines de cela. Les chances qu’il se retrouve dans ce top intermédiaire étaient pour le moins infimes. Elles réduisaient davantage au moment de ma première écoute de son album fraichement sorti. Le voilà pourtant : First LP! s’impose déjà comme l’underdog ce 2024, celui qui gagne le plus à être poncé.
